Who are Bumblebees?

Bumblebees is a small Pre-school group established in 1989 whose aim is to provide a warm and friendly, healthy, caring, stimulating and structured environment for children to grow and learn whilst having fun,.  We cater for up to 34 children in each session, aged between 2 and 5 years old.

We are based on the grounds of Beaudesert Lower School in Leighton Buzzard.  www.beaudesert.beds.sch.uk

We are currently open for 10 sessions a week:  Monday to Friday 8.50am - 11.50am and 12.00 to 3pm, term time only.

Children are welcomed into the setting where they hang their bags and coats on their own named peg, followed by circle time registration. Children then enjoy free flow play throughout the session allowing them to choose between playing inside or outside. Inside activities on offer include the art table, maths activity table, writing table, playdough or other textiles, age appropriate learning games on two computers, stories in the book corner and a home/role play area. On the carpet area we have a range of  toys out including construction and small world. We have child sized toilets and sinks to encourage the children’s independence.

Outside we have two garden areas. The soft surfaced physical activity area has a climbing frame and slide and space for the children to enjoy riding scooters, bikes, playing with balls, on the see saw or in the outside kitchen role play area.

The nature garden is a quieter area for water and sand play, exploring different materials, planting bulbs and seeds, outside painting and a quiet seated area for listening to stories, looking at books and drawing.

Many of the children enjoy bug hunting around our ‘bug hotel’.

We run topical themes throughout the year, educating the children about celebration and festival days around the world.  As part of our curriculum we provide relevant art materials and foods from around the world to taste; this is normally offered as a whole session group. Often we invite well vetted outside entertainers to help the children experience music, dance and story time. We offer a free flow snack bar where the children can choose when they would like something to eat and drink. At the end of the session all children join in with a group activity of either music, movement or a game.
